The origin story of this foundation is one rooted in grief and loss. In 2004, I lost my daughter, Marva, in an automobile accident. Growing up, Marva was very much a scholar who also possessed a photographic memory. She was highly fun-loving with a natural enthusiasm for life! After graduating high school, she attended Trident Technical College, pursuing a career in Engineering, with plans to attend a four-year college. Although she never had the opportunity to complete that desire, her legacy will live on in service of others through the Marva Ebony Kierra Scholarship Foundation (MEKA).
We formed this foundation to provide high school seniors with financial assistance in pursuing higher education. The foundation is a way to keep Marva’s passion for education alive. My board members consist of five (5) other members, of whom I am confident that with their knowledge, we can forever exist (continual existence), who are of the following occupations: A Life Leadership Coach in Atlanta, Georgia; An Assistant Principal in the state of Georgia; a Customer Care Rep from Greenville, SC; A Social Services, Child Protective Supervisor in Miami Florida and a Social Events Chairperson with Mental Health services for many years in SC.
Your patronage is a donation of your choice. Every dollar puts us closer to awarding a high school graduate with the “Seeds to Achieve” a promising future. Everyone should have the ability to receive a quality education. It saddens me that many cannot because of their economic status or other life obstacles. Those who hail from rural South Carolina, an often forgotten community, reach far and wide to prove our value continually. Education is a necessity and should not be a luxury. We will continue the fight to support as many high school seniors as possible financially.
